Hello all!

We hope the past few weeks have been kind to you. Whether you were just passing through, re-fuelling after a long cycle, picnic prepping, or are an ARAN regular - thank you for all your visits over the past month.

We are very excited to be in the midst of planning our second year of Sunday Brunches with the Taybank. Brunch will be served by the river in a relaxed communal setting and will include a seasonal menu prepared by ARAN Bakery and the talented Taybank Kitchen Team. Sadly all tickets have sold out, but keep an eye out on our instagram page for any cancellations.

There are a selection of new summer items on the counter for you to try this month, including a Gooseberry Frangipane Tartlet with Elderflower and an Apricot Danish with Amaretti & Sweet Cicely. If sweet isn’t your thing, our savoury options are: Marjoram, Cherry Tomato & Grana Padano Danish; Nicoise style Olive, Artichoke and Green Bean Focaccia Sandwich; Bulgar Wheat, Cauliflower, Coriander and Pomegranate Salad. Overnight Oats are available for you to grab on the go too. These breakfast pots are really helping our team get through the busy summer days. If you like the sound of these but aren’t passing anytime soon, we’ve popped our recipe at the bottom for you to have a go yourself!

The LON team had a busy day this month reshuffling and restocking the shop for summer. Yellow is the colour this month! Our new Falcon Enamelware jugs and tumblers in mustard yellow are durable and transportable, so ideal for picnicking. And we have McConnell Blooms flowers and natural Selwyn beeswax candles, perfect for a summer night sitting round the dining table. As always, we have our range of local produce, including local berries and honey, as well as the best veg from Little Trochry Farm which is available for you to pick up from the store Tues-Sat. 

It is market season and, as you know, we are loving being part of the Guardswell Evening Markets again this year. We will be back at Guardswell on the 10th July from 3pm, which means LON Store will be closed for the day. LON will also be closed for staff holidays on the 9th July. ARAN Bakery will be open as normal from 9.30am-3.30pm, Tues to Sat.

In early June Kirsten joined the team. She’s doing a fantastic job helping us in the bakery on a Saturday. A very welcome extra set of hands - thank you Kirsten!

ARAN Overnight Oats

Serves 2

  • 100g Oats

  • 225g Milk

  • 1 tbsp Chia Seeds

  • 1 tbsp Pumpkin Seeds

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey

Method

Mix the oats, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds and syrup or honey with milk. Place in a container and pop in the fridge overnight.

If you like you can make a simple roasted fruit compote by mixing together 4 parts fruit with 1 part water and 1 part sugar. We add vanilla and lemon to ours (depending on what fruit we are using) and simply roast in the oven for 10 minutes. The result is a lovely syrupy compote which is perfect spooned on top of the oats with a generous dollop of Greek yoghurt and ARAN granola.

The oat mixture can stay in the fridge for up to four days.
